The Hidden Room Theatre is proud to present Invisible Inc, Paul Menzer’s (Brats of Clarence) stylish and crackling noire mystery about feuding magicians in depression-era New York. Sebastian Topflyte is a classic prestidigitator in the ritzy theatre palaces of Manhattan. Cord McCade is a rogue upstart in the sleazy back-alley speakeasies of downtown. Both men have something to prove, a score to settle, and a lady to win, but the only sure thing in this world of misdirection is danger.
Invisible Inc boasts an original score by Graham Reynolds whose ghostly spectre played the paino almost-live for an amazed crowd nightly. This production also marked the second installation of the Hidden Room’s Foreign Actor Exchange Program, in which we were happy to welcome Laurence Pears back to the Austin stage after weeks of rehearsal via Skype.
We were delighted to work for the first and hopefully not the last time with playwright Paul Menzer on this world premiere at Austin’s Long Center for the Performing Arts inside the Rollins Studio. Every performance also featured a roaming close-up magician (often our very own master of magic J.D. Stewart.) Alakazam, indeed.
Invisible Inc was proudly supported by the Redd Carpet Fund and by the Long Center for the Performing Arts.
